The Sparrow Hawk is a small but powerful bird. It is an aggressor known to intimidate much larger birds. The name "SPARROW HAWK" was chosen for this conversion as it best describes what the little Cessna 152 becomes. It will outperform a Skyhawk all around, with only 125 HP. Also, as the smaller bird requires less food, the converted 152 requires considerably less fuel than its larger brother.
The SPARROW HAWK conversion retains the original 0-235-L2C engine requiring only "Top end" work to increase its rated horsepower. The engine baffle system is modified for more even air distribution and, for the full conversion, the propeller and spinner are replaced with a Sensenich kit. Net cost for the mod should be less than $5500.00 including a top overhaul. If it is done at overhaul the additional costs should be less than 3000.00! The conversion may be done in stages, Prop & Spinner only or engine & baffles only. The remaining portion can follow as needed. Just changing the propeller makes a significant performance difference allowing the stock engine to turn 2700 RPM and 115 HP continuous. (See above graph for take-off comparison.) Three propeller pitches are certified, with either the stock or modified engine, to tailor your conversion to your own needs (52, 54, & 56) and with the middle pitch installed, with the stock engine, cruise increases approx. 5 knots. The full conversion delivers cruise speeds of 135 MPH or more at 75% power, and a service ceiling of over 16,000 feet. Take-off and climb performance have to be seen to be believed and fuel consumption is in the 6 to 7 GPH range!
All in all, converting your existing Cessna 152 to a SPARROW HAWK will give you a real "honest" airplane without hauling around empty seats and paying extra maintenance and fuel expenses. Flight training operations are much safer when the power is available to conquer problems like density altitude, balked landings, heavy people, etc. which may now be overcome only by using a four-place aircraft.
